Blink: new album nearly ready

Posted by jamie on Jun 22, 2011

Blink-182 have announced that they’ve almost finished work on their new album.  Mark Hoppus posted the following statement on the Blink facebook page:

“i’m very excited. we’re getting to the point of the album where we talk about mixers and finishing up the songs. we deliver the album to the label on july 31st, so it will be coming out during the tour. the most recent batch of songs are some of the best of the entire record. very happy it’s all coming together.”

The new record doesn’t have a title or a firm release date yet.  So hopeful for this: not least as it means they’ll finally be able to tour the UK.

Blink statement / Mark Hoppus supports Chelsea.

Posted by jamie on May 24, 2011

They’ve cancelled the whole of their UK tour, but Blink 182 have released dates for the US.  The reason being that these were already booked at the same time as the UK ones, or something.  Having just about explained it, he’s then made himself unpopular again by outing himself as a Chelsea fan.  Chelsea.  I died a little bit inside when I read that last bit.

Blink-182 co-headline a US tour with My Chemical Romance, supported on selected dates by Matt & Kim, Rancid and Manchester Orchestra.  Unsurprisingly, the hasn’t gone down that well over here. Mark Hoppus has posted the following note on Facebook:

Hello fellow humans in the UK and Europe. I understand your confusion and frustration at hearing the US tour announcement tonight. Here’s what’s up. This tour was booked ALONGSIDE the UK/European dates, a long time ago. We did NOT book the US tour after deciding to postpone the UK/European dates. The plan was to finish the album, tour the UK/Europe, and then come back for the US tour. We ran late on when we thought we’d finish the album, and unfortunately the time we needed made the first leg impossible.

Hopefully it’s for the best, because some of the best work on the album is being done these past few weeks. Now there’s a hard deadline for the album to be turned in, and it will be released during our US tour.

That’s what’s up. I get and share your anger at the postponement of the first leg of the tour. As we’ve said before, it wasn’t a decision lightly made. At all. But don’t think for a second that we decided to tour the US instead of the UK. It’s not the case. For me personally, I can’t wait to get back across the pond. With new songs and a new show.

And lastly, Chelsea Football Club rules. Those who disagree are just jealous, or something.

We are Tottenham, super Tottenham, super Tottenham, from the Lane.

Blink’s UK dates for 2012 are on general sale here.

Blink 182 postpone UK & European dates

Posted by jamie on Apr 18, 2011

I’m feeling sort of gutted about this, actually.  Blink 182 have postponed all of their UK & European tour dates so that they can write new songs.  They’ll be here in 2012.  Yes, twelve.

Here’s their statement in full:

EUROPEAN 2011 TOUR DATES RESCHEDULED

FROM MARK, TOM AND TRAVIS: It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce our planned 2011 European Summer tour has been rescheduled.  When we booked the tour last year, we were confident that we would have the new album out before the Summer. Turns out wewere mistaken as the album is taking longer than we thought and won’t be outtill later this year.  We hoped we wouldhave some new songs to play rather than do another ‘greatest hits tour’ whichyou all saw last Summer.  As much as weknow our fans would be cool with that, we feel that we owe you guys somethingnew when you spend your money to come see us. Frankly, it’s what needs tocontinue for us to remain vital.  Thethree of us are working very hard to do what we set out to do when were-formed…get a new blink-182 album recorded. Apologies to all of our fans who have bought tickets and were lookingforward to the Summer shows but we’ll be back soon with the rescheduled datesin Summer 2012, have a new album out and be able to play new songs for you all. Thanks for all of the continued support and understanding.  The rescheduled dates are on our website (www.blink182.com) and are listed below.

To actually see the rescheduled dates, you’ll need to go here.  Otherwise this post would be miles long and that.
